Hernia Surgery is done both by MAS (Minimal Access Surgery) and Open technique depending on patient suitability and long term out come parameters.
A hernia is the result when an organ pushes and makes its way through the muscle or membrane that should be holding it, thus creating a hole. This causes severe pain and resulting in serious complications.
They most commonly happen in the abdomen when a weak abdominal wall develops a hole through which the tissues can protrude. This can also cause organ dysfunction, gangrene, and death.
Both men and women can get a hernia. Some hernias are present at birth (congenital), while others develop over time.
Common types of hernias:
Inguinal Hernias: An outward protrusion of abdominal-cavity contents through the abdomen or groin region.
Femoral Hernias : is a bulge in the upper part of the thigh near the groin.
Incisional Hernias: caused by an incompletely-healed surgical wound.
Umbilical Herias: An outward bulging (protrusion) of the abdominal lining or part of the abdominal organ(s) through the area around the belly button.
Diaphragmatic Hernias : A diaphragmatic hernia, or hiatal hernia, occurs when a piece of a patient's stomach migrates up into the chest through an opening in the diaphragm muscle.
